The 3rd NAIST SDGs Action Vol. 4 – Picking Cotton (November 4, 2023)

Cotton Cultivation in Fallow Rice Field Project 2023 Vol. 4

In 2009, a project to plant cotton in fallow rice fields for these protectction began in the town of Koryo, Kitakasegi County, Nara Prefecture. This initiative is attracting attention as a new way of agriculture and industry that not only protects rice fields but also creates employment opportunities, contributes to the revitalization of the local economy, and enables traceability of industrial materials.

In support of this initiative, we have held cotton-picking events in fallow fields in 2021 and 2022 as NAIST SDGs Action. In addition to picking cotton, this year’s participants also experienced the various processes of cotton cultivation, such as sowing seeds and weeding, to deepen their understanding of the SDGs.

We will be picking cotton in fallow rice fields in Koryo town where we planted cotton seeds on June 3. We would like to work in a friendly atmosphere with all participants. Children can also do this work, so please join us with your family. Registration by a representative is required to participate in the event.
